What file formats can I upload?

Accepted formats

TailorLabs accepts PDF and DOCX resume files. PDF is recommended for most users because it preserves formatting and typically parses more reliably.

DOCX files are also supported. If your DOCX uses complex layout elements like text boxes, sidebars, or nested tables, the parser may have trouble reading it. Converting to PDF first usually resolves this.

File size and length

Keep these limits in mind:

• Maximum file size: 5 MB.
• Maximum resume length: 10 pages (most single-role resumes are 1-2 pages).
• Files larger than 5 MB usually contain embedded images. Export again at a lower quality setting.

If your file is rejected

Check that the file is not password-protected or encrypted. Protected PDFs cannot be parsed. Remove protection before uploading.

If your file is a scanned image rather than a text-based document, ATS parsing and tailoring will not work reliably. Use a text-based export from your word processor instead.
