How does the tailoring workflow work from start to finish?

A plain-English walkthrough of upload, job import, questions, rewrite, and export.

The four stages

TailorLabs moves through four stages each time you tailor a resume to a job: parse, analyze, ask, and rewrite.

Each stage builds on the last. The quality of the final resume depends mostly on the quality of the job description you provide and the answers you give to the follow-up questions.

Stage 1: parse your resume

When you upload a resume, TailorLabs extracts your work history, skills, education, and contact details. This becomes your baseline that every future tailor pulls from.

If the parse looks incomplete, you can review and correct the extracted content before tailoring.

Stage 2: analyze the job

Add a job by URL or pasted text. TailorLabs reads the posting and maps it against your baseline resume to find match strengths and requirement gaps.

The result is a list of prioritized gaps: areas where the job description signals importance but your current resume provides weak or missing evidence.

Stage 3: answer the questions

For the top gaps, TailorLabs generates targeted questions. These prompts ask for concrete details you can honestly add: scope, tools, outcomes, or context that your resume currently understates.

Stage 4: rewrite and export

After you answer the questions, TailorLabs rewrites your summary and relevant bullets using the details you provided. Nothing is invented; only confirmed details are used.
