What do I do when I genuinely have no answer to a question?

Skip it: do not fabricate

If a question asks about experience you genuinely do not have, skip it. The tailoring system will work with what you do provide, and the related requirement will remain as an open gap in keyword coverage.

Fabricated experience creates a resume you cannot defend in an interview. That risk is not worth a marginal coverage improvement.

Look for adjacent experience first

Before skipping, consider whether you have anything adjacent. A question about Salesforce does not require deep CRM admin experience: if you have used a different CRM in a similar way, that context is worth providing.

Adjacent experience, stated honestly with the right qualifiers, is usually more useful than a skip and more defensible than a stretch.

What open gaps mean for your application

An honest gap in coverage can actually be fine. Many strong applications have gaps; employers understand that requirements lists are aspirational. What matters is that the experience you do show is credible and specific.
